JOIN THE GREEN PARTY BEFORE THE 27TH OF AUGUST TO VOTE FOR AMELIA & TAMSIN

AMELIA WOMACK AND TAMSIN OMOND LAUNCH BID FOR GREEN PARTY CO-LEADERSHIP

  • Traditional politics has failed to respond to the climate emergency

  • COP26 and the most recent IPCC report demonstrate a need for visionary Green leadership

  • Womack and Omond answer a cry from young people for inspirational leadership that responds to the challenges of a changing world

At 9.30am on Thursday 12th August, Amelia Womack and Tamsin Omond launch their bid for the Green Party co-leadership.

Both are leaders within the environmental movement.  Amelia Womack is deputy leader of the Green Party.  She has had seven years experience on the leadership team and carries with her the learning of the last three General Elections.  She has overseen the biggest surge of members, voters and councillors in the party’s history.

Tamsin Omond has been a founding member of many environmental groups including Climate Rush, The Momentum Project, Save England’s Forests and Extinction Rebellion. They were Head of Global Campaigns at Lush Cosmetics, overseeing the successful Fighting Animal Testing campaign and steering Lush’s charitable giving towards grassroots anti-fracking campaigns.

Tamsin Omond (they/them), 36, said -

“There has never been a more urgent moment to join the Green Party and to get involved in building a future that leaves no-one behind.  The climate emergency is now a leading political concern and the Green Party is ready to capture hearts and minds, and deliver radical policy change.”

Amelia Womack (she/her), 36, said -

“Together Tamsin and I - will build a Green Party that wins electorally - council seats and MPs up and down the country; stands up for trans liberation and racial justice, and bring marginalised and diverse communities to the heart of our party. We will  oppose the coming austerity budget and  inspire more people than ever before to join and vote for the Green Party.”

Over the coming weeks Womack and Omond will consult with communities both inside and outside the Green Party membership before releasing their programme for leadership. This programme will centre around four pillars where the Green Party can win:

  • Electoral success

  • A Green Future

  • Heart and minds - and -

  • Liberation

Their leadership is part of an emerging story of left-wing, feminist leadership from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Jacinda Arden, to German Green Party co-leader Annalena Baerbock and Finland’s Government.
